Padua is a picturesque city with a dense network of narrow streets opening into large public squares. It has many bridges crossing the various branches of the Bacchiglione, which once surrounded the ancient walls of the city like a moat. Padua is famous for its university and also for its pilgrimages and holy sites, most notably the Basilica of Saint Anthony, where the grave of Saint Anthony is preserved.
