At 650 metres above sea level, Madrid is Europe's highest city and also the capital of Spain. Located on the Manzanares River, the city has a modern infrastructure but has also preserved its older buildings. The Royal Palace of Madrid and the buildings and monuments of the Paseo del Prado, one of the main boulevards in Madrid, are perfect examples of Baroque architecture. Madrid is also known for its art museums; most famous are the three museums of the Golden Triangle of Art located on the Paseo del Prado. The city also has a vibrant nightlife with pubs and cafes open late into the night.
