Zermatt is located in southern Switzerland only about 10km from Italy. The Matterhorn mountain towers over the charming village. This mountain stands alone as its pointed summit sticks up into an otherwise uncroweded horizon. Famed for skiing, Zermatt has a complex system of cable cars and chair lifts to take people high up into the mountains. The town is car-free, dotted with cabins in atmospheric twisting alleys. Zermatt is also the western terminus for the famous Glacier Express train.
