An island located in the northern Caribbean Sea, Cuba has a tropical climate that is moderated by the surrounding waters. The capital, Havana, has some incredible colonial architecture and the countryside boasts beautiful beaches and luscious fields of sugar cane. Cuban music truly expresses Cuban culture. Influenced by Spanish and African culture, Cuban Son music has in turn influenced musical styles like salsa, rumba and mambo. Provocative dance is also associated with Cuba - dancing was a way for people to break free and rebel against oppression.
