Mexico City is the capital of Mexico, its cultural centre and the country's most populous city. Mexico City is built in a valley surrounded on all sides by mountains, with only one small opening in the North. Three of Mexico's tallest peaks are located within 100 miles of the city. The most recognisable icon of Mexico City is the golden Angel of Independence monument that can be found on the elegant avenue Paseo de la Reforma. The Historic Centre and the “floating gardens” are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Mexico City has more museums that any other city in the world. These included the National Museum of Anthropology, where the Aztec Calendar Stone is housed.
